Here's how it works:

  1. Submit the first page of your manuscript here along with some additional information.
  2. We'll read the first page! We can't wait!
  3. If we like it, we'll ask to read the rest of your manuscript. If the first page was any indication of the rest of your manuscript, we'll offer publication!
  4. If it's not working for us, we'll let you know why.

Guidelines:

  • Your manuscript must be completed before you submit! Upon review of your first page, we may ask you for your complete manuscript. If your manuscript is not complete, you will be disqualified.
  • Please format your first page in Times New Roman 12-point font, double spaced, with 1-inch margins.
  • Please only submit your first page. If you submit more, we will only read your first page.
  • We accept any genre, including children's picture, poetry, and chapbooks!

We value transparency.
The manuscript review process can take up to 8 weeks. We want to make sure we give your manuscript and every manuscript we receive its due consideration.

Once we review your manuscript, we will respond to you (guaranteed!) and inform you of our decision, which will be one of the following paths:

  • manuscripts that promote diversity, environmentalism, and/or other important progressive ideals
  • strong online platforms and/or a strong social media marketing plan

an invitation to the Emerging Authors Program

  • a strong manuscript but little to no publishing experience
  • a strong manuscript but a limited marketing plan
  • publishing experience and/or a strong marketing plan but a manuscript that needs significant development
  • a desire to learn more about publishing

an invitation to self-publish with us

Authors who are better suited for self-publishing tend to have:

  • a desire to retain complete creative control over their project
  • an illustrator they're committed to whose work is not up to industry standards
  • a manuscript that is not unique or does not contribute to the larger conversation
